Lucca is a city on the Serchio river in Italy’s Tuscany region. It’s known for the well-preserved Renaissance walls encircling its historic city center and its cobblestone streets. Broad, tree-lined pathways along the tops of these massive 16th- and 17th-century ramparts are popular for strolling and cycling. Casa di Puccini, where the great opera composer was born, is now a house museum.
Real Collegio – Lucca
The Real Collegio was the old monastery of the S. Frediano church, dating back to VI century. The old monastery has been deeply modified and transformed during XVII century with the development of two main cloisters. The building has over 500-years of history on its shoulders.
In 1779 the Republic of Lucca decided to use the building as a “University Institute” and thus, Pope Pius VI disposed the S. Frediano community patrimony to the construction of the new institute.
The 8th edition of the ANIMMA international conference will be held in Real Collegio from June 12th to 16th 2023 and will gathered more than 400 worldwide participants.

Public Transport
The car parks and the immediate suburbs are connected by shuttle, the rest of the Province is connected by bus service. In particular, the Real Collegio area is served by shuttles 1 and 2. For information on lines, timetables and routes, consult the Vaibus.
Train
Lucca station is a 20-minute walk from the Real Collegio. To consult the train timetable, please visit the website Trenitalia.
Highway
The toll booths of Lucca Est and Lucca Ovest are close to the historic centre. Rates and itineraries on the website of Autostrade per l’Italia.
Parking
Near the historic centre, and in some areas inside the walls, it is possible to find an almost infinite range of possibilities for leaving one’s car. Campers have access to the municipal area of viale Luporini and to the private area Il Serchio. For a complete map of the car parks, consult the Metro website.
Motorcycle Parking: access for motorbikes in the ZTL is free. You can park in the white stalls adjacent to the structure or use the affiliated and guarded car parks.
Bicycle Parking: guests’ bicycles can be parked for free in the historic centre.
