Lucca is a city on the Serchio river in Italy’s Tuscany region. It’s known for the well-preserved Renaissance walls encircling its historic city center and its cobblestone streets. Broad, tree-lined pathways along the tops of these massive 16th- and 17th-century ramparts are popular for strolling and cycling. The city is also the birthplace of numerous world-class composers, including Giacomo Puccini, Alfredo Catalani, and Luigi Boccherini.

Pisa is a city and comune in Tuscany, straddling the Arno just before it empties into the Ligurian Sea. Although Pisa is known worldwide for its leaning tower, the city contains more than twenty other historic churches, several medieval palaces, and bridges across the Arno. The city is also home to the University of Pisa, which has a history going back to the 12th century, the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies.

Pisa will be the location form the Animma International Summer School (AISS).

The Real Collegio was the old monastery of the S. Frediano church, dating back to VI century. The old monastery has been deeply modified and transformed during XVII century with the development of two main cloisters. The building has over 500-years of history on its shoulders.

In 1779 the Republic of Lucca decided to use the building as a “University Institute” and thus, Pope Pius VI disposed the S. Frediano community patrimony to the construction of the new institute.

The 8^th edition of the ANIMMA international conference will be held in Real Collegio from June 12^th to 16^th 2023 and will gathered more than 400 worldwide participants.

By Air:

The closest Airport is Pisa Airport Galileo Galilei, about 25 km far from Lucca. Other airports are Florence Airport (90 Km), Bologna Airport (150 Km), Rome Fiumicino Airport (370 Km) and Milan Airports (350 km).

By Train:

You can easily get to Lucca by train from Rome and Milan with direct routes (check Trenitalia website). Lucca station is a 20-minute walk from the Real Collegio.

Highway:

The toll booths of Lucca Est and Lucca Ovest are close to the historic centre. Rates and itineraries on the website of Autostrade per l’Italia.

Public Transport:

The car parks and the immediate suburbs are connected by shuttle, the rest of the Province is connected by bus service. In particular, the Real Collegio area is served by shuttles 1 and 2. For information on lines, timetables and routes, consult the Vaibus.
